NEW FOR 2024-2025: Proficiency and Agriscience Fair points will be 75 points for 1st place, 50 points for 2nd place, 25 points for 3rd place and 12 points for 4th and beyond.

1 Points may be counted in any fair or show. In no case may a student accumulate more than 500 points during a year. Crops, horticulture plants, swine, sheep, goats, beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses and any other animal may be counted in the awards program. There will be a 5000 point cap on the number of points a chapter can earn.
2 Points are tabulated as follows:
a) 4 points for swine, sheep and goats
b) 8 points for beef cattle, dairy cattle and horses
c) 1 point for crops and horticulture plants and for other animals
d) 1 point per dollar won (prize money)
e) No one animal may earn more than 500 points.
3 The above points may be earned only once where animals are exhibited in a junior and open show at the same event.
4 Points earned from money won shall be counted from premium money only. No points may be earned from sponsorship-type money. Points may not be counted for any event other than when the animal or crop owned and cared for by the FFA member is exhibited. No points may be counted from any show where the FFA member (owner) did not personally exhibit the animals. The only exception would be in a situation where two animals owned by the exhibitor are shown at the same time and place.
5. Points for showing a horse may be accumulated based on one point per dollar earned, points awarded by breed-approved shows, county fair-approved shows, and Saddle Club Association-approved shows. Horse has to be owned and exhibited by FFA member. Points may be accumulated for halter, showmanship and riding events.
6. In no case, may a student accumulate more than 500 points per year showing a horse or any combination of livestock (i.e. horse, hogs, cattle, sheep, etc.).
7. Points for the school year in fairs and shows shall be earned during the calendar year beginning January 1st and ending December 31st.
8. All show points will be reported online at westtnffa.ffanow.org. The report forms are due by March 1st.
9. A chapter may enter no more than one proficiency award in any area. Members must be in at least their second year as an FFA member to compete in Proficiency Awards.
10. Proficiency Awards and Agriscience Fair Applications: A chapter shall earn 12 points for each application entered that does not place in the top 3 in West TN standings. 75 points shall be earned for a 1st place, 50 points for a 2nd place and 25 points for a 3rd place. No points will be earned for an application that is disqualified. Points for each chapter will count for the top 12 proficiencies and the top 6 Agriscience Fair projects although a chapter may enter as many applications as they qualify for.
11. State FFA Degree applications must be submitted by the February deadline.
12. STAR Applications (Star Farmer, Star in Placement, Star in Agribusiness, Star in Agriscience and Star Greenhand) A chapter shall earn 25 points for each Star Application award entered that does not place in the top 3. 150 points shall be earned for a first place, 100 points for a second place and 50 points for a third place. No points will be earned for an application that is disqualified. Only one application for each area will be accepted, including Star Greenhand.
13. An oversight committee will be formed to determine if a STAR application will be accepted for judging or disqualified. No points will be earned for an application that is disqualified.
14. Star Applications must be scored by each judge and turned in to the Regional Coordinator prior to personal interviews.
